Operational from 1855 to 1891, this lighthouse was built at what seemed to be a good location 422 feet above sea level but had one serious flaw. Fog and low clouds often obscured the light. Despite being replaced by a lower station light, Old Point Loma continues to stand watch over San Diego Bay, preserving its stories from a bygone era.
